The new platform aims to close the gap between breakthrough health science and real-world application, using elite sport as a launchpad for innovation at scale
NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, October 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Four-time Olympian, former International Olympic Committee Executive Board Member, and sports business innovator Angela Ruggiero has partnered with TOWER founder and health science industry executive, Sans Thakur, to co-found and launch TOWER SPORTS, a new health and human performance platform designed to bring health science from the lab to the locker room, and ultimately to everyone.
While billions flow into sports franchises, technology, and facilities, investment in athlete health and performance has lagged. According to TOWER’s analysis, less than 3% of private equity investment in sport has been directed toward performance health, revealing a significant underserved market actively seeking frontier science solutions for performance and longevity.
TOWER SPORTS aims to close that gap. Through a platform-as-a-service model, the company connects frontier health science with athletes, sports organizations and healthcare providers to accelerate innovation in recovery, diagnostics, women’s health, performance and longevity.
Combining Ruggiero’s leadership across international sport with TOWER’s global architecture of researchers, health centers and scientific coalitions, the platform is forging partnerships with sports organizations, facilities and brands while lifting funding mechanisms to scale proven innovations.
FROM ELITE PERFORMANCE TO EVERYDAY HEALTH
“Sport is one of the most powerful proving grounds for innovation,” said Ruggiero, Co-Founder of TOWER SPORTS. “As a four-time Olympian, I’ve seen firsthand how athletes push the boundaries of what’s possible. By connecting them with breakthrough science, we have an opportunity to transform not only elite performance, but health outcomes for everyone.”
The opportunity is particularly compelling in women’s sports, where rising investment, visibility and athlete influence are driving demand for specialized performance and health solutions. Drawing on Ruggiero’s experience as former Chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, TOWER SPORTS is incorporating athlete participation into its business model, creating opportunities for athletes to access emerging innovations and participate in long-term value creation.
“When athletes started coming to us for innovations in ACL recovery, peptides, brain health and women’s science, we recognized an opportunity to rethink health access,” said Thakur, Co-Founder of TOWER SPORTS. “Sport has the power to accelerate innovation in ways few other industries can. We’re building a platform that connects scientific breakthroughs with the people and systems that can put them to work. Sport is for everyone. Health is for everyone. TOWER SPORTS creates a pathway from elite performance to better health for all.”
BUILT ON SCIENCE. DESIGNED FOR SCALE.
As scientific innovation accelerates, the challenge is no longer simply discovery – it’s access, adoption, and scale.
TOWER SPORTS builds on TOWER’s existing Generational Health infrastructure. It spans scientific and commercial initiatives across five continents with a New York City-based Hub. Founded in 2022, TOWER develops health solutions at the intersection of biology and technology, with existing Generational Health Centers and plans to extend those capabilities into specialized sports science and performance facilities.
The platform unites two leaders with complementary expertise. Ruggiero previously co-founded Sports Innovation Lab, acquired by Genius Sports (NYSE: GENI), served as Chief Strategy Officer for LA28 and held leadership positions across the IOC and U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee. She currently serves on the World Rugby Executive Board.
Thakur, Founder and Chairman of TOWER and the published pioneer of Generational Health as a category, brings more than 25 years of experience in health science, technology and investment, including serving as CXO of a leading unicorn company, leading global life sciences research at Accenture, and directing a roughly $9 billion U.S. pharmaceutical business. She serves on UN and WEF strategic councils on healthcare and longevity.
Together, they aim to make sport a catalyst for the next generation of human performance – bringing its breakthroughs to communities worldwide.
